PAHOKEE — A 24-year-old man riding an all-terrain vehicle died Friday evening after colliding a with a wire cable line that blocked off part of a dirt road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jervenski Javon Parker, of Pahokee, was riding northward on a dirt road south of Rim Canal and Section 20 roads at about 5:30 p.m. when he hit the cable.

The impact threw him from the ATV, which eventually landed in a drainage ditch.

Parker was air-lifted to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. “It’s unusual,” FHP Lt. Tim Frith said. “We haven’t had a lot of ATV fatalities here.”
