Hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters can devastate a community. When these types of events occur, we want to do everything in our power to help rebuild what has been lost and restore hope.

Reminders before Donating
- Never allow someone to make you feel pressured or rushed to make a donation.
- Try to give directly to established charities or groups that you know and trust, such as Red Cross.
- Be sure to research the charities before donating. Cross-reference with the Better Business Bureau if you have questions.
- During a crisis, you may find people coming to your door to target people who are directly affected. You may also receive phone calls, texts, or emails. Please do not give out personal information without being sure these are legitimate charities.
- Do not always trust Caller ID or email addresses. Scammers know how to change their caller ID and phone numbers and email addresses to mock a legitimate business. Do not click links in your email directly if you have questions. Type the URL to the site directly and check for yourself.
- If someone arrives claiming to be a government worker, they are required to carry an official ID at all times. Please request to see it and analyze it carefully to be sure you are not being scammed. Contact their agency directly if you need to.
- Government agencies (such as FEMA) do not ask for financial information or ask for a fee in order to apply.
- A safer way to make a charitable donation is by using a credit card. Please don’t use a gift card or make a wire transfer.
- Once you have made a donation, be sure to check with your financial institution that no further debits have been taken from your account.
- Be wary of charity names that sound very similar to well-known charities, as well as email addresses that are not consistent with the charity soliciting donations.
- Verify the charity’s website URL as most legitimate charity organization websites use .org, not .com.
