Laura K. Smith is a skilled attorney and valuable member of The Fran Haasch Law Group team. She has served the firm as of counsel since 2008, assisting with a wide range of personal injury claims, including those involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, catastrophic injury, and wrongful death. Throughout the legal process, she offers thorough, accurate, and straightforward advice backed by her years of legal experience. Ms. Smith strives to help her clients return to normalcy after a traumatic incident by helping them fight for the full, fair compensation they are owed.
Prior to joining The Fran Haasch Law Group, Ms. Smith worked as an attorney in her hometown of Key West, Florida. There, she handled a range of legal matters, including personal injury claims, criminal defense issues, family law matters, and civil litigation. This broad base of litigation experience allowed her an in-depth understanding of how to help people in crisis. Ms. Smith understands that each and every client is dealing with something that has an immense impact on his or her life. With this in mind, she makes it her mission to provide her clients with the empathetic legal services and level of respect they deserve. Ms. Smith understands that a client-centric approach is equally as important as aggressive representation in the courtroom.
Ms. Smith is admitted to practice in all state courts of Florida, as well as the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She was selected for inclusion in the Florida Super Lawyers® Rising Stars list in 2010. She has also served as past President, Vice President, and Secretary of the Monroe County Bar Association and served multiple terms as the past President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Monroe County Chapter of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
Ms. Smith has also had the distinction of serving as a Judge for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Teen Court program and also served on the Board of Directors at her local Police Athletic League. She has also been a member of several legal organizations, including The Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the American Bar Association.
When preparing personal injury and wrongful death cases on behalf of her clients, Ms. Smith conducts thorough research and exhaustive investigations in order to determine exactly what happened and who is liable. She frequently communicates with her clients in order to better understand the full extent of their injuries and the complete impact the accident has had on their lives. She then uses this to build strong cases designed to secure the best possible outcome for her clients.
